Celebrate the most magical time of the year by making a seed Christmas advent calendar for you or your kids. It’s fun, easy and sustainable!
DIY seed Christmas advent calendar
Many wonderful facets make Christmas the most magical time of the year. From the spirit of giving to the amount of love and joy that’s spread around during this time. It’s not only Christmas day that’s exciting but the lead up to Christmas day is also filled with wonder and glee.
A Christmas advent calendar is a fun way to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year while building excitement as Christmas day gets closer. Instead of buying a standard chocolate advent calendar, why not try making a seed Christmas advent calendar using a range of Gift of Seeds? It’s a fun, easy and sustainable way to count down to Christmas, plus you receive a different variety of seeds to grow each day and a fun, festive-themed activity to complete. Find out how to make a seed advent calendar below.
What you will need to make a seed Christmas advent calendar
- Twine or string
- Small wooden craft pegs
- 6 or 12 Gift of Seeds (purchase here)
- Pen
- Decorative elements (stickers, bio-glitter, coloured pens, pencils or crayons, pressed flowers etc.)
Instructions to make a seed Christmas advent calendar
- Purchase 12 Gift of Seeds. Two multi-packs will do the trick! If you would prefer a shorter countdown, simply purchase one multi-pack for a 6-day Christmas advent calendar.
- When you receive the Gift of Seeds, number the envelopes provided from 1 to 6 or 1 to 12. If your kids feel like getting creative, let them glue pressed flowers, draw Christmas pictures, or decorate them with bio-glitter and pressed flowers.
- Write a nice festive-themed message or activity on the back of the Gift of Seeds and place each one in an envelope and seal it shut (see festive activity ideas below). If the advent calendar is for your kids, it’s best to do this without them in the room. If the advent calendar is for yourself, ask a friend, your partner or a family member to complete this step for you.
- Tie a length of twine somewhere in your home, ensuring it’s secure and won’t fall when weight is added to it.
- Peg each Gift of Seeds to the twine. You can choose to peg them up in numerical or mixed order.
- Each day, in the lead-up to Christmas, take down the corresponding numbered envelope and open it to reveal the Gift of Seeds and the activity for the day.
